Obituaries

Betty Jane Doerner, 99, of Carmi, passed away Thursday, October 1, 2026, at Wabash Senior Living and Rehab. Born September 2, 1927, in Broughton, she was the daughter of Truman Wilson and Mary D. (Wilson) Gwaltney. Betty graduated from Norris City High School in 1946. On January 1, 1950, she married Roy Kenneth Doerner, and they shared more than 68 years of marriage before his death on April 14, 2018. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Carmi and worked as a secretary for the Rebstock family for 72 years, retiring at age 97. In her free time, Betty enjoyed sewing and shopping.

Michelle Rene Brown, 54, of Carmi, passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2026. She was born on Tuesday, March 7, 1972, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Mike and Sandy (Ward) Zenner.

Sammie Lou Smith, 91, of McLeansboro, Illinois, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on September 25, 2026, in McLeansboro. She was born on February 16, 1935, in Beggs, Oklahoma, to Dwight and Margurite Morris.

     Michael P. "Mike" Talley, 81, of Carmi passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 26, 2026 at Wabash Senior Living and Rehab in Carmi.  He was born in Carmi on January 8, 1945 the son of Earl and Rosemary (Morris) Talley.  Mike married Judy E. Smith on December 30, 1967 and she preceded him in death on December 22, 2000.  He later married Gloria E. Lampley on May 2, 2001 and she preceded him in death on February 3, 2015.  Mike retired after 30 years in the oil industry as a Drilling Superintendent for James Biggard Drilling.  He faithfully served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.  Mike was also a faithful member of New Beginning Church of God where he would help however he could, but enjoyed serving in the kitchen and food pantry.

Shelia L. Clodfelter, 74, of Norris City passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2026 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, IN. She was born north of Carmi in Centerville on July 17, 1952 the daughter of William Carroll and Bertha M. (Schmittler) Murphy. Sheila married Richard A. Clodfelter on May 27, 1971 and he survives. For over 20 years, Shelia worked for the State of Illinois as a Home Health Nurse with Addus HomeCare. She enjoyed watching NASCAR and Professional Bull Riding.

 It is with heavy hearts that we share the unexpected passing of Joyce Ann Turpin, age 67, of Carmi, Illinois. Joyce was a beloved mother and grandmother, who died on August 24, 2026 in Hackensack, New Jersey.

Mary Ann Armstrong, 94, passed away September 21, 2026 at Memorial Hospital in Springfield, Illinois.  She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Mignon McElvaney, and husband of 63 years, Edward H. Armstrong.

Dennis Burrell Pindell, 71, of Norris City, IL, passed away at his home on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, surrounded by his family. Born September 23, 1955, in Gary, IN, he was the son of Sidney and Tressie (Crider) Pindell. Dennis married Cynthia Stokes on December 18, 1981, at the First United Methodist Church in Norris City and they shared more than 39 years together before her passing on April 15, 2021. He enjoyed camping, fishing, classic rock music, sci fi shows, and documentaries. A talented artist, Dennis also took great pride in serving his country in the Army. He was a member of the Norris City American Legion, and his family extends special thanks to his American Legion family for their years of camaraderie, laughter, and support.

Rosanna Delores (Kreher) Nice, 81, of Dahlgren, IL passed away on Monday, September 21, 2026 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, IL.  Rosanna was born on January 10, 1945 in Piopolis, IL to her parents Joseph & Gertrude (Birkner) Kreher.  On November 30, 1963 she married Larry Paul Nice who preceded her in death on November 18, 2021.

Helen Marie Harrawood Owen Webb passed away Friday, September 18, 2026 surrounded by family at Purpose & Passion HomeCare in Almo, KY.  She was born December 23, 1931, in McLeansboro, IL, to Luther and Marie (Neel) Harrawood, and she had one sibling, Betty (Morris), who preceded her in death.
