James Leslie "Jim" Shatzsall, 84, of Norris City, passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2022, at Ferrell Hospital, in Eldorado, Illinois. He was born on January 30, 1938, the son of John James and Edna (Blades) Shatzsall. Jim married Wanda Lou Oliver. He taught high school in McLeansboro for a time and then went on to work as a Petroleum Engineer for Texaco.and Reading and Bates. Jim was a member of Village Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Norris City. He enjoyed woodworking and was an avid quail and duck hunter.

Shari Jo Hogue, 58, of Carmi, passed away on Saturday, November 19, 2022. She was born in Carmi, Illinois on June 15, 1964, the daughter of Paul and Lucille Lorine (Sexton) Hogue. Shari worked at Wabash Christian Village for 17 years as a Dietary Aide. She was a yellow belt in Taekwondo, and attended classes at the Carmi Taekwondo Center. Shari also attended wrestling school and went by the name of Starlight.
Terry L. Guinn, 61, of Crossville, Illinois, died Saturday, November 19, 2022, at his home. He was born April 21, 1961, in Carmi, Illinois, the son of Samuel and Nola (Taylor) Guinn. He worked as a laborer in both the oilfields and farming fields in and around the Crossville area.
William Eugene "Bill" Kays, 89, of Carmi, passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2022. He was born in Fairfield, Illinois, on March 7, 1933, the son of George Robert and Marie Elizabeth (Harl) Kays. Bill graduated from Crossville High School in 1951. He married Donna L. Carney on November 2, 1957, and she preceded him in death on April 9, 2019. Bill proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was stationed in Germany. He worked as a Foreman and Superintendent of Operations in the oil field, having worked at Superior Oil for 35 years and then at Mobil Oil in Alexander, North Dakota and Gillette, Wyoming until retirement. He was a member of McHenry United Methodist Church, and was also a member of the American Legion, VFW, and the Elks. Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working. He especially loved boating and camping with his boys when they were younger.
George Tidwell, 73, of Norris City, passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, Indiana. He was born on August 27, 1949, the son of Carley Franklin and Myrtle B. (Young) Tidwell. George married Virginia Lee Young on August 27, 1972, and she survives. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. George worked as a welder for CSX Railroad Company for 42 years. He was a member of the Harrisburg American Legion. George enjoyed woodworking, fishing and camping. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Dale Robert Singleton, 80, of rural Robinson, IL, passed away on Oct. 28, 2022, at his home. He was born on Oct. 12, 1942, in Johnsonville, IL to Robert & Mabel (Tway) Singleton. After graduating from Norris City High School in 1959 at the age of 16, he earned a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois while taking advanced ROTC training.
Donald R. Seitz, 80, of Carmi passed away on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family and friends. He was born in Carmi on April 25, 1942 the son of Walter and Eva (Hutchcraft) Seitz. Donnie graduated from Carmi Township High School in 1960 where he had perfect attendance all 12 years of school. In 1964, Donnie was drafted into the United States Army and faithfully served his country during the Vietnam War. After being honorably discharged in January of 1966, he married Carolyn R. Clark on April 9, 1966.
