White County Ballot Taking Shape with Nearly Two Dozen Contested Races in April 1 Consolidated Election

Ballots across the state are taking shape as county clerks and office staff prepare for the April 1st election.  While general elections get most of the glory and mainstream media coverage, it’s consolidated elections where most of your day-to-day life is affected through the election of municipal, township, and school board leaders, road commissioners, and ballot questions.  While some races feature unopposed candidates, there are a fair amount of contested election spots.  In White County, here’s what WROY/WRUL News will be following in races featuring opposition.

In the Village of Crossville, Henry Feldmann will see opposition from Rick Kuykendall for President.  Voters will also choose three of seven candidates vying for trustee spots.  Nancy Osborne, Miranda Kuykendall, Chad Harrell, Billie Mullins, Cherie Westfall, James Ryan Smith, and Heather Guinn are the choices.

In Carmi, there are races for Ward I alderman pitting incumbent Sheila Headlee with Jack Bradshaw.  In Ward III, challenger Greg Knight will try to unseat Stephen Winkleman.

Village of Norris City voters will choose three from a pool of five for trustee positions.  Judy F. Daubs, Tracy J. Russell, Tammi “Dee Dee” Bradley, Joseph E. Skaggs, and Julia McKenzie are the options.

In Mill Shoals, voters will select a Village President and Trustees.  Josh West is facing off with Tim Isaacs for President.  The top six voters out of ten total choices will fill the trustee board there.  Choices include William J. Doggett, Cheryl Leann York, Sheila Titzer, Sylvia Jean Murphy, Jade French, Elizabeth Bare, Eric Martin, Cathy Schuler-Venters, Cara Smothers, and Kelly York.

New Haven voters will pick three trustees from five choices.  Among them:  Terra Holak, Vicki Russell, Matthew Morgan, Deidra Gibbs, and Brigitte Browning.

Contested contests in Township races across White County include for Trustee in Heralds Prairie where one will be left out as five individuals compete for four spots.  David Hays and Kristin “Charlie” Williams will be listed as Democrat options.  Tony Williams, Kory Sutton, and Bradley Williams are Republicans.  Other Township Trustee races are featured in Phillips, Emma, and Carmi.  Four spots will be filled out of six options in Phillips including Democrats Stan Whitley and Cindy Hodgson as well as Republican options, Michael L. Johnson, Dustin Coston, Jeffrey Spencer, and Moses Scott.  In Emma, voters will choose four of six options again from Democrat candidates Terry Frashier, Thomas Scates, Eli Frashier, and Lori Allen along with Republicans Andrew Wagner and Matthew Gilpin.  Carmi Township voters will choose four from five options including solitary Democratic choice Tim Scates and Republican options Chula Schlesinger-Fleming, Mike Baxley, Wailin Chapman, and Shelly Cross Buchanan.

Indian Creek will feature a Highway Commissioner race pitting David Wheeler, a Republican against Independent John Taylor Delap.  Phillips Township will also select a Highway Commissioner with Republican Derek Spicer facing off with write in candidate Larry Joe Ridenour.  There are also races for Highway Commissioner in Carmi Township, Hawthorne, Enfield and Mill Shoals.  In Carmi, Chris McEwing, the incumbent is being challenged by Republican challenger Casey Coale.  In Hawthorne, Christopher Buchanan, a Republican faces Independent Terry Warren.  Enfield Township will feature a race between Republican Doodle Hart and Indpendent Tim McGehee.  In Mill Shoals, Republican Brand Nelson faces off with Independent Wayne Carter.

We’ll be paying attention to one public question in particular after a contingent of petitioners took out of the NCOE Unit 3 School Boards hands the decision on whether to issue $3.2 million in bonds for working cash.  The voters will now decide.

Voters in the NCOE School Board District will also choose four members to represent them moving forward.  Among their choices: Mike Hite, Aaron Summers, Alex Ridge, Heath Rush, and Frank Graves.
