Hamilton County Board Moves Funds to Highway for Oil and Chip

Board members from the Hamilton County Board met to discuss new items for the county, highway recommendations, and appointments during their June meeting.

Only one item was tabled during the meeting, an ordinance pertaining to the Hamilton County Battery Energy Storage Systems. Chairman Kelly Woodrow explained that he would obtain more information and discuss it with Bellwether. The item will be added back to the agenda in future meetings.

Highway Commissioner Rick Coronado detailed his reasoning for an additional sum of money needed to oil and chip roads. Coronado stated that he wants to add another five miles, with each mile costing $16,000, and the total required balance is $80,000. Board members approved moving $80,000 from the Coal Fund to the Highway Department.

Last month, the board members discussed renovating the bathrooms at the Courthouse; they are still accepting bids for the work. Suggestions were given to communicate with the Chamber of Commerce regarding grant assistance.

The board approved the County Clerk’s Semi-Annual Report, as well as the Claims List and the Engineering Services Agreement for the Shelton Creek Drainage with Hutchinson Engineering.

Lastly, three re-appointments and one appointment were approved for various boards in Hamilton County. Terry Drone will keep his seat on the Southeastern Illinois Regional Planning and Development Commission, and Kenny Aydt and Greg Muehlenbein will remain on the Hamilton Memorial Board. There was one final position to fill on the Hamilton Memorial Board, with many names to choose from; the board agreed unanimously to have Kim Vaughn fill the seat.

The next Hamilton County Board meeting will take place on July 15 at 6:00 p.m.
