Crossville Village Board Recap Includes July 5th Community Celebration Details, Trout Replacement, and More

Preparations continue for Crossville’s big July 5th Independence celebration.  Village Trustee Nancy Osborne gave an update at Tuesday night’s meeting.

On July 5th, it’s gonna start at 7 in the morning and from 7 – 10, the fire department will be selling breakfast.  $5 and it’ll include pancakes, eggs, sausage, orange juice and coffee.  Then we’ll have a pickleball tournament; check in is at 8 on that.  We have 3 age groups.  8 – 12, the 13-16 year olds, their check in is at 10, and at noon will be 17 to adult.  They need to be familiar with pickleball rules.  Then at noon, we’ll have some water activities, slip and slide, splash pad and stuff like that.  The cornhole tournament I’m not sure on…we’re going to confirm that at our next meeting Monday night.  The food truck has been confirmed and fireworks will be at dusk.

There’s still talk of doing a kickball tournament instead of the planned softball tournament.  There were also mutterings of potentially holding a home run derby.  Stay tuned and see below for additional details.

Absent from Tuesday night’s meeting were trustees Bruce Morlock and Cherie Westfall.  Mayor Rick Kuykendall asked the board to approve sending Trustee Wes Trout’s last two paychecks to his wife Debbie.  Trustees present approved that unanimously.  Trout passed away on June 10th.  Though leaders held off on appointing someone to fill that seat, the mayor said he was recommending Jim Smith and it would be on the next meeting’s agenda.

The proper thing to do would be to appoint Jim Smith who actually ran for the board.  He was the next one on the list in the public’s eye of voting.  In all fairness, I’ve talked to Jim and he’s more than willing to serve on the board for the remainder of Wes’ term and I think that’s the fair way to do it.  We won’t do that until the next meeting when hopefully everyone’s here.  But I wanted you to think about that and make sure that’s the way everybody’s comfortable going.

Crossville leaders also approved permits Tuesday night including a demolition permit for Tammy Ireland on Richards Street.  They also approved Bev Collins for a fence, carport, and storage shed on Rudolph Street.

Mayor Kuykendall also says at the next meeting, trustees should anticipate a presentation from a PC Doctor’s representative from Grayville.  He’s expecting to learn more about security camera options.

The Crossville Village Board meeting adjourned at 6:53pm and is next due to gather on July 8th at 6:30pm.
