Crossville Post Office Burgled Over Holiday Weekend

The Crossville Post Office was broken into sometime over the holiday weekend.  A White County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to the Crossville mail hub Sunday morning to meet with USPS employee Megan Mercer.  She told the officer upon her arrival she found that someone had entered the employee only area of the building and it appeared several packages had been gone through.  In his report, the deputy says there were several packages and envelopes that had been opened and the contents emptied.  Some of the packages were put in a trash can and some are most likely missing.  Postmaster Leona Weir arrived on scene and says the US Postal Inspection Service had already been contacted and she requested the facility be processed as a crime scene.  The Illinois State Police have been called in to assist.
