Carmi Fireworks
Carmi residents are invited to enjoy a massive fireworks display this year, however, the Lions Club’s sponsored car show has been moved to September.
Kelly Northcott, Carmi Chamber of Commerce Director, explained the fireworks are set to begin around 9 Sunday night, July 4.
WRUL 97.3 FM will be playing patriotic music throughout the fireworks and listing the sponsors who have made this year’s pyrotechnics possible.
Carmi’s annual fireworks are paid for by donations from individuals and the business community. Northcott thanked all those who donated and urged everyone to come out and enjoy the festivities.
Carmi Chief of Police Jason Carter announced the traffic patterns for this year’s activities, explaining that it will basically be the same as in past years. That pattern will go into effect around 8:45 Sunday evening. That includes closing the southbound traffic on Oak Street to Fairgrounds Road. Main at Fairgrounds will be open just prior to the start of the fireworks before being closed. Additional details of the traffic patterns will be posted later this week.
Motorists are reminded to watch and obey all directions from Carmi Police, White County Sheriff’s Deputies and local Carmi Fire and EMA units.
