We’re getting details now from the White County Sheriff’s Department on a flurry of activity over the past couple weeks. Sheriff Jordan Weiss has been out of the office which has delayed the release of reports. On June 19th, a deputy pulled over a vehicle just after 9pm on Highway 1 just outside Carmi. Arrested were 23-year-old Tyler Spaulding of Carmi and Sarah Smith of Norris City. Smith has since been transferred to Posey County where she was wanted on a warrant from a case dating back to February of 2024 on charges of Possession of Meth and Possession of Marijuana. Spaulding was arrested on a Gallatin County warrant dating back to June of 2023 on charges of Possession of Meth and Possession of a Firearm without a Valid FOID card. Additionally, Spaulding picked up new charges in White County of Unlawful Use of Property, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of Cannabis in a Motor Vehicle. Spaulding remains behind bars at the White County Jail.
On Sunday, June 20th, an officer with the Sheriff’s Department says he observed a male sitting in the drivers seat of a black Pontiac Vibe parked directly in front of the department. He says he knew the man, 47-year-old Freddie Swift of Grayville, had a Revoked Drivers License. Moments later, a female that was released from the jail was observed walking to the vehicle and entering the passenger seat. After a few minutes, the officer says the vehicle, driven by Swift backed out of the parking lot prompting law enforcement to follow and conduct a traffic stop. Swift was subsequently arrested, taken back to the jail, booked, and then released with a Notice to Appear. The vehicle was towed courtesy of Don’s Bumper to Bumper. Swift is due in court for a first appearance on July 29th.
