White County Sheriff’s Department investigating sunken boat

Friday morning, White County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call at a residence on Shipley Street in Carmi about a burglary at that location.

Evelyn Murdach reported that she had discovered missing items at the house that she is responsible for. $400-500 of miscellaneous coins were taken along with an antique single shot rifle.

No forced entry could be found.

Friday afternoon, the Sheriff’s Department arrested 37 year old Rebecca Cartmill of Carmi on a White County warrant after she turned herself in.

Just after 1:30 pm Cartmill surrendered at the Sheriff’s Office, and was released after posting a $150 bond.

Sunday afternoon, the White County Sheriff’s Department responded to a jon boat sunk in the Little Wabash River along County Road 2000 East a 1/10 of a mile south of 1550 North. Cherry Street Automotive removed the boat from the water.

Information received from the boat found the owner to be Jakeb Young of Oakland City, Indiana. Young reported that he had sold the boat two months ago, and believed that the boat had been sold again since then.
