Tri County Relay for Life a Success

Special to WROY/WRUL News…

Relay For Life volunteers are excited about the success of this year’s Hamilton/Wayne/White Relay event. With the unofficial total (including outstanding donations), it is anticipated that the goal of $55,000 will raised in honor of those touched by cancer.

Our communities came together in a demonstration of caring and generosity,” expressed Janice Crow, RFL Event Chair. “We are grateful to each person who contributed in any way to our Relay success,” added Crow.

The Opening Ceremony began with the National Anthem, flags presented by the Piopolis Busy Bees, and prayer offered by Matt Hart. Cancer survivors then took the honorary first lap of the evening. Entertainment was provided by Clay Rapp.

A highlight of the evening was the presentation of two awards: The Kathy Smith Volunteer Award was presented to Nolene Rubenacker. A Team Excellence Award was presented to Team Hodgson for their fundraising efforts during the 2024 Relay Season, in which they raised $18,690 “for a cure.”

As a touching memorial for loved ones, the Luminaria Ceremony included 465 luminaries glowing in the dark in memory of loved ones who lost their battle and in honor of survivors who continue to fight for a cure.

“On behalf of every Relayer in Hamilton, Wayne, and White County, we thank the teams, sponsors, survivors, those who made donations, and all participants who came together to make this Relay successful,” expressed the RFL Leadership Team.

Anyone who missed the Relay and would like to make a donation may contact any Relay volunteer, Cindy Anselment at Banterra Bank, or online at relayforlife.org/hamiltonIL. Donations for the 2025 season may be submitted through August 31.
