Arguments were heard Thursday on a motion for relief and pretrial release in the case against Darren Hays. That motion was made before Cumberland County Judge Jonathan Braden on Tuesday. The motion was denied, Hays waived his right to a preliminary hearing and pre-trial was set for May 14th. Hays is being represented by attorney Troy Parrish. Special prosecutor Doug Dyhrkopp out of Gallatin County is in charge of the case for the state.
Also in White County court Thursday, the case against Jeffery Rawlinson appears to be headed to trial. A final pre-trial is scheduled for April 2nd in which the defense and prosecution are set to provide witness and exhibit lists. Rawlinson was arrested on January 29th on charges of Home Invasion, Aggravated Battery, being a Felon in Possession of a Weapon, Criminal Trespass to a Residence with persons present, and also Possession of Hypodermic Syringes. On November 14th of last year, Carmi Police executed three separate search warrants resulting in the arrests of 10 individuals. Among those taken into custody were 29-year-old Christian Stevens, at his home, along with three other individuals. Stevens was charged with Possession of Meth with Intent to Deliver, Possession of Meth (100-400 grams), Unlawful Use of Property, Possession of Hypodermic Syringes, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. On Thursday in White County Court, States Attorney Chris Neal made a formal motion to abandon his pursuit of those charges.

Cases involving two of the other three individuals, Amber Walkenbach and Nathan Egbert, are still ongoing. The other saw Brian Brock agree to a plea deal Wednesday in White County court. His guilty plea to the Unlawful Use of Property resulted in two years of probation, an order into drug treatment, a fine, and a 6-month stayed jail sentence. Charges of Possession of Meth and Possession of Hypodermic Syringes were dismissed.
