Updates announced by Gallatin County EMA concerning flooding

A flood warning continues for the Ohio River at Old Shawneetown. The river level at 9:30 am this morning was at 49.08 feet and is still predicted to crest at 53.5 feet on March 4th
.
Gallatin County EMA Director Steve Galt, stated that Sandbagging operations have begun at the
Gallatin County School, while the school is not effected, students as well as inmates from the Illinois
Department of Corrections are filling sandbags to be delivered through out the county.
 
With water at the 49 foot mark the following roadways are being impacted:
– Main Street entrance into Junction
– Texico Lane west of Main Street in Junction
– Walnut Street in Old Shawneetown
– Illinois 1 at Eagle Creek Road near Gibsonia has water on the roadway and is being
monitored by IDOT. {IDOT will close the road at dark today}
– Illinois at the Annabelle Mine in Hardin County has water completely over the roadway and
is being monitored by IDOT. {IDOT will close the road at dark today}
– Illinois 1 at Mt. Zion Road in Hardin County has water over the roadway and is being
monitored by IDOT. {IDOT will close the road at dark today}
– Shawneetown-New Haven Road three miles north of Shawneetown has water on the
roadway and is being monitored by the Gallatin County Highway Department. {Gallatin
County Highway Department will close the road at dark today}
Additional sandbagging is occurring in Old Shawneetown and Equality.
 
The Little Wabash River has been officially closed to boat traffic from the Illinois 141 bridge to the
mouth of the Little Wabash River and Wabash River.
 
The Junction Post Office operations will officially move to the Shawneetown Post Office beginning on
February 28th, through the duration of the flood only.

*** Note– people traveling to the Sectional Basketball Tournament in Elizabethtown, Illinois 1 will be
closed at dark, the only route to Elizabethtown will be Illinois Highway 34.
