Two Carmi residents were injured in a Wednesday morning traffic crash at the Enfield intersection after a Harrisburg woman did not stop at the stop sign and crashed into their vehicle.
According to the preliminary crash report by the Illinois State Police, 28 year old Jaida Cissna of Harrisburg was northbound on US 45 when she failed to stop and crashed into the driver’s side of a SUV driven by 90 year old George Chaffin of Carmi. Chaffin’s vehicle was overturned in the collision, and came to rest in a ditch on the northwest side of the intersection.
Chaffin and his passenger, 85 year old Ruth Chaffin were both transported to a local hospital by ambulance for treatment of their injuries. Cissna was cited for disobeying a stop sign, and for use of an electronic device while driving.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Illinois Department of Transportation, White County Sheriff’s Department, Norris City Police Department, White County Ambulance Service, Harre’s Ambulance Service, Enfield Fire Department, and Cherry Street Automotive.
