Friday morning, Carmi Police were led on a short, slow speed chase that began on 6th Street near Sycamore and ended at the intersection of 5th and Shipley Streets with the arrest of two individuals.

At 10:57 am, officers noticed that the vehicle’s plates did not match the vehicle description, and initiated the stop.  The driver, 44 year old Tony Xanders of Fairfield, was taken into custody on charges of fleeing and eluding police, obstruction of justice, and was issued citations for no valid registration and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.  Xanders is being held at the White County Jail without bond pending a court hearing.

A search of the vehicle and the female passenger returned several illegal items.  29 year old Brittany Howder of Carmi was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.  Howder was also charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and obstructing justice.  Officers had noticed she had been driving the vehicle before her arrest, and was additionally cited for driving on a suspended license and improper use of registration.  Howder is being held at the White County Jail without bond pending a court hearing.
