A young Carmi man many have seen walking about the streets is behind bars following his arrest Tuesday evening. About a quarter after 6pm, officers with the Carmi PD picked up 24 year old Shane Simmons of Stewart Street. They say he was wanted on a White County warrant for Disorderly Conduct. Simmons was picked up walking on Commerce near Gillards. He remains behind bars as of Wednesday morning on $100 bail.

August 23, 2023 at 8:42 amInstead of arresting him, you need to send him for a psych eval and get him some help. Shame on you, do better white county.

August 23, 2023 at 12:54 pmAre you not part of the county? Did you do anything for him? Easy to complain. Takes commitment to actually do something.

August 23, 2023 at 11:32 amWhy don’t they pick up some of these dope heads and not even give them any bail!!!

August 23, 2023 at 11:33 amThe “walking about the streets”. Carmi lacks a lot of understanding for a town built on drug money and gaming machines. This man needs help, not public shame.

August 23, 2023 at 12:08 pmHe is such a sweet guy. He comes into the store and we make sure he has water and a snack. He truly needs some help. Praying he can get that with law enforcements help.

August 23, 2023 at 2:20 pmCPD is heavy on putting people behind bars these days suddenly…$$$ Go Jordan!!
Our community is changing. Where are our real leaders? Are we all just going to watch and let this keep happening? We’re being quick to judge and a**ume reports like this are true. Funny how drugs are a problem again after just having won that war. The drugs being confiscated and posted online aren’t even the real deal. Glad they have an incinerator.
Most of the calls/reports here are false. There’s an agenda. $$$ #DOCA Wake up!
Disorderly Conduct? Ok…
What was he doing? Asking for help? Those covering up things will try to blame drugs or mental health EVERYTIME. If they have to frame you, they will.
How about investigating to see what’s going on. People don’t just go crazy, get “strung out” and lose everything.

August 23, 2023 at 2:33 pmThis is bs. You cops around here don’t do s*** to arrest the dope heads and meth boys that are snitches gor you. There is an unsolved drug induced homicide that you or white county hasn’t done anything about! But you make a big deal about catching this guy?? Way to go! I bet it took 5 or 6 of you guys to get him. Get the murderers and dope heads off the street.

August 23, 2023 at 6:26 pmI have seen dude many times walking down the street. Always polite if he speaks. I understand the disorderly conduct arrest, but how about getting him the MENTAL HEALTHCARE HE NEEDS!!!!!! HELP PEOPLE, thats what you’re supposed to do. Thats what WE ALL ARE SUPPOSED TO DO. Locking a person up that has mental issue’s doesn’t make them better. Treat him, help him get the proper mental care and medications that is necessary for this man to have a more quality of life.

August 24, 2023 at 7:57 amNo one sees his being “picked up” as protecting him from the elements of the heat we’re having. He is inside, out of the heat, has food and water, and will be receiving his medications. Perhaps this is a blessing for his protection. Could it be this process is required to get the ball rolling in his favor? Could the court now order a mandatory evaluation that he can’t refuse, being an adult? I don’t know but I do see this current action helping him.

August 25, 2023 at 10:16 amI am with Carmi Guy on this one! Unfortunately, the first step in being able to get mental help for someone is aresst. Then it goes from there. A lot of people are to quick to judge especially where law enforcement is involved! I am just curious as to how many of you that have commented have helped this young man out? Need I say more!
