Sheriff’s Department opens two investigations; make warrant arrest

Saturday afternoon, the White County Sheriff’s Department recovered a generator that had been reported stolen to the Carmi Police Department.  Brad Gates reported he had discovered the generator concealed on his property in a wooded area.

Later Saturday, the Sheriff’s Department received a call about a gun fired inside a rural Carmi residence.  Upon investigation, deputies could not find evidence a gun had been fired, but did remove two firearms from the residence.  A record check showed 53 year old Vivian Brown does not have a valid FOID card, and a report has been forwarded to States Attorney Denton Aud.

The Sheriff’s Department arrested 30 year old Matthew Oberlender of Carmi at his residence Saturday night on a White County warrant.  Oberlender was taken into custody at 11:31 pm and was transported to the White County Jail.  He was later released after posting a$150 bond.

Sunday afternoon, the Sheriff’s Department investigated an alleged assault in Crossville. No arrests were made, but several statements were taken.
