Rural Wabash County Water District issues statement on water discoloration

The Rural Wabash County Water District is continuing to have issues with discoloration of their water. Rural Wabash purchases their water from the City of Albion. Previously, the City of Albion was having problems in their system, resulting in the discoloration of the water that they were selling Rural Wabash. Once that issue was resolved, Albion flushed their entire system. Upon their completion, Rural Wabash flushed their entire system as well, finishing up on Friday September the 2nd.

The following Wednesday on September the 7th, the City of Albion worked on some of their valves, therefore sending more discolored water into Rural Wabash’s system. Rural Wabash is taking appropriate steps to resolve this issue in an effective manner. There is no boil order issued, as the discoloration is a result of iron in the water and it is not harmful. Samples of the discolored water have been sent to the EPA, and the samples have all come back showing that it is safe for consumption.

The Rural Wabash County Water District wishes to thank their customers for their patience during this time, and want to apologize for the inconveniences this has caused. Please know that Rural Wabash is working diligently to get to a permanent solution for this issue. Please feel free to contact the RWCWD office at 618-299-6101. Furthermore, customers are welcome to contact the City of Albion at 618-445-3214 regarding this ongoing issue.”
