Police Retention, Wiggs Excavating, and More During Norris City Village Meeting

The Norris City Village Board met for its regular session Monday night, Scott Mareing was there and has this report…

Before the regular meeting could actually start, there was a continuation of the special board meeting that morning concerning the bid opening for Phase IV of the water project.  The low bids were from Wiggs Excavating for the water main replacement in the amount of $1,394,932 and from the Falwell Company for the water meters in the amount of $249,777.  Wiggs and Falwell were the only two bidders for both contracts.  Both low bids were unanimously approved and the special meeting officially adjourned at 7:14 PM.

In the regular meeting, Mr. Glad, who has been attending several meetings with complaints concerning the closing of his alley, told Mayor Skip Land earlier that he has been considering filing a lawsuit, saying other alleys have been closed but he can’t get his closed.  Mayor Land told him that from now on, any discussion on the matter will have to be directed to village attorney Nathan Roland.

The board approved the overall process of using $38,703 in MFT funds for oil and chipping of streets.

The village has received  the $40,000 Police retention grant.

Litigation is near completion on the landfill.

The house on 506 North Division Street has been torn down.  The village will advertise for sealed bids for the property.

The Generac generator for the Senior Center has been installed and will be tested, so now the building can be used as a cooling/heating center.

It turns out Norris City is not exempt from drivers required to have CDL licenses, so the board approved the training of employees at SIC to obtain their licenses.  It would be a four week course, five days a week and the drivers would be working on a three year contract.  Mayor Land will collect more information and get back with the board members.

The contract for grinding and paving on Main Street was approved.

The new concession stand is in at Hulett Field.

There were no Police or Animal Control reports

The board adjourned at 8:04 PM.  The next village board meeting will be on Monday, June 3rd at 7 PM.
