Phelps Arrested For Domestic Battery

A Grayville man was arrested this past Sunday morning by the White County Sheriff’s Department on a case of Domestic Battery.

Deputy Michael Brown was told of a phone message from Wabash County Dispatch, who advised that a Lacy Cotton, 24, of Crossville, was at the Emergency Room at Mt. Carmel.  She told the nurses she had injuries that were cause by her boyfriend, 21 year old Chalon Phelps of Grayville.

Deputy Brown went to the Mt. Carmel Police department and spoke with Sgt. Price, who said they had detained Phelps.

Brown spoke with Lacy Cotton, who said she was at 305 First St. in Crossville in bed with Phelps, and when she got up, it woke Phelps up.  She then said Phelps beat her up, and also attempted to choke her, but was unsuccessful at it.  She agreed to sign a Domestic Battery complaint against him.

Deputy Brown interviewed Phelps in the interview room at the Wabash County Jail.  After being read and signing his Miranda rights, Phelps said he thought the Deputy was there to take him home.  Phelps said the reason he was at the hospital was due to Cotton having possible head injuries and didn’t know of any other reason.

Deputy Brown explained that with the complaint and injuries that he was being placed into custody for Domestic Battery, and also advised Phelps of a warrant for his arrest out of White County for Failure to Appear.

Chalon Phelps was taken to the White County Jail, charged with Domestic Battery and Driving While License Suspended or Revoked, and is being held on $500 bond.

Not all of the details of the incident have been released.
