The Enfield Village Board met in a long two and a half hour session Tuesday night, which featured a spirited discussion about groups using the gym at the Booth School. Scott Mareing was there and has this report…
For about 45 minutes, the board members talked about complaints about the Animal Control members, who are responsible for cleaning up the gym, policing the area when various groups are using it, even though it’s not part of their job description. Groups have been complaining about constantly being watched while there. The members said that the board needs to come up with rules concerning that, saying the people using the gym should be cleaning up after themselves and be held responsible if they violate the rules.. It was decided that rules for the gym will be written up and voted on at next month’s board meeting. A three person committee will then oversee the operation.
Morgan Doggett with Adeline Development Group had the village sign a service contract to apply for grants for the police department, and a $450 contract for obtaining grant money for upgrades to the Booth School, which includes the boilers.
In other business, completion of the street lighting is still ongoing.
The small business grant is in limbo until they hear from the state.
The altitude valve has been installed and is working well.
There is no action on the Police contract renewal for Springerton until the March board meeting.
The washer and dryer is in place at the Booth School and the washer is hooked up. Everything has been cleaned up at the school except for the stage.
They’re still waiting to hear from Brown & Roberts on the sewer grant.
The new truck the village wanted to purchase at Lemonds in Fairfield has been sold, so they’re looking at purchasing another one at Expressway in Evansville. The board approved going back to Lemonds and see if they are willing to match Expressway’s offer, which was $2,000 lower, as the village would like to purchase a vehicle where they could get service on it closer to home.
The board approved final payments on the Water Project to Followell in the amount of $12,699.59 and to Brown & Roberts in the amount of $1,255.80.
They decided to table considering paying Dispatch Fees to White County.
The board then went into Executive Session for 45 minutes. After being called back in, the board approved abolishing the $2,000 liquor license fee for the rest of 2025, after the first $500 is paid. They also approved allowing Sunday liquor sales from 2 to 8 PM for bars and gaming only, as soon as their attorney draws up an agreement.
The board adjourned at 9:29 PM.
