One Norris City Man Jailed on Aggravated Battery; the Alleged Victim Taken to Hospital

A Norris City man is jailed while another is in the hospital after a fight Saturday there.  White County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to the intersection of East and Locust at a quarter till 8pm in response to a report of a fight in progress.  Along with Norris City Police, the deputy reports upon arrival finding Shaun Drum lying on the ground with blood on the right side of his face and a swelling eye.  When the officer asked Drum what happened, he was reportedly speaking but incoherently.  Emergency Medical Services arrived and took Drum to the hospital.  The officers talked with a witness who said Drum and she were outside having a drink and a few shots when 18-year-old Luke Rankin was being “mouthy” behind his apartment.  She says Rankin and Drum began walking toward each other when Rankin punched Drum and then began kicking him in the head.  Just before 10pm, White County Ambulance Director Adam Allen called the deputy and said that Drum was being lifeflighted.  Rankin is behind bars on Aggravated Battery charges at this time.  He had a first appearance and a detention hearing earlier this week.  He’s due back in court for a preliminary hearing on February 3rd.  A family member told us Thursday morning tests on Drum ruled out anything broken and says thankfully, he didn’t suffer an aneurysm.  He did suffer a concussion according to family and they say he’s pretty bruised up but will recover.
