Nine arrested as local law enforcement conducts warrant sweep

The White County Sheriff’s Department, Carmi Police Department, Grayville Police Department, and Illinois State Police conducted a warrant sweep detail that began Thursday night at 6pm and is continuing. Nine arrests have been made so far, and Sheriff Doug Maier says more arrests are expected.

61 year old Gary Solterman was arrested at his Springerton residence by White County deputies assisted by Illinois State Police just after 7 pm.  Solterman was wanted on a White County warrant for possession of cannabis after a search warrant executed April 11th found 59 plants in a shed on his property.  During a search of the residence, officers found a baggie containing a white powder residue and a straw with residue.  Solterman admitted that the residue was methamphetamine.  Solterman has additionally been charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.  He is being held at the White County Jail on a $7500 bond.

Carmi Police arrested 26 year old James Belka of Carmi on a failure to appear warrant from White County on a charge of unlawful possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.  Belka was taken into custody at a residence on Shipley Street at 7:38 pm and is being held at the White County Jail in lieu of a $500 bond.

41 year old Dustin Pierce of Springerton turned himself in at the Carmi Police Department at 7:54 pm Thursday on a White County warrant for driving on a revoked license.  Pierce was processed at the Jail and was released after posting a $2000 bond.

30 year old Anthony Yokel of Mt. Carmel was arrested by Grayville City Police at 8:19 pm on a Gibson County, Indiana warrant.  He is currently being held without bond at the White County Jail.

At 8:35 pm, 31 year old Elijah Locker of Crossville was arrested by White County deputies on a failure to appear warrant on a body attachment warrant.  He is being held at the Jail in lieu of a $300 bond.

32 year old Amanda Mercer surrendered at the Carmi Police Department at 8:48 pm on a White County warrant for retail theft.  Mercer was later released after posting a $150 bond.

At 9:08 pm, Sheriff’s deputies and State troopers arrived at 24 year old Sean Spurlock’s Maunie residence to serve a White County warrant for possession of a stolen vehicle.  At the residence, officers observed two men in the living room.  The men, Spurlock and 39 year old Cecil Mizell of Maunie were both charged with possession of methamphetamine after officers discovered a yellow baggie with white crystal powder and an empty syringe.

Both are being held at the White County Jail pending a court hearing. Spurlock’s warrant carries a $500 bond.

And after deputies attempted to make contact with 61 year old David Strean, he turned himself into the Sheriff’s office at 10:02 pm.  Strean was wanted on a White County warrant for theft, and was released after posting a $150 bond.
