The Carmi City Council met Tuesday night for the first time in September. A planned public hearing over the rezoning of a residential property scheduled before the meeting was not held due to the property owner asking that the issue be removed from the agenda.
A moment of silence was held in memory of Alderman Shelia Headlee’s husband Tom, who passed away on Monday. Alderman Mike Knight was absent as he recovers from a recent surgery.
The Council unanimously passed an ordinance that prohibits parking on the east side of 8th Street between Oak Street and Crebs Street. Residents had asked for the ordinance because during events at the high school, the street becomes impassable and drive ways have been blocked.
In his report, Mayor Jeff Pollard reminded the public about the fly-in at the Carmi Municipal Airport on Saturday, September 16th and the upcoming Carmi Chamber of Commerce dinner. He also announced that the City would be flushing fire hydrants starting October 16th. Flushing will occur nightly from 1 am to 5 am for two weeks.
With no executive session, the meeting adjourned at 5:38 pm. The Carmi City Council next will meet on Tuesday, September 19th.
