Carmi Council Opens Roof Bids; Tables Purchase of 200 Kerney after Call from City Attorney

A mostly procedural, quick special meeting Friday morning produced as many questions as it provided answers.  While the Carmi Police Department roof issue is still ongoing, council members now have fresh quotes and hope to be able to move forward with a solution at Tuesday’s regular council meeting.  Integrity Roofing put in a low bid for a TPO (Thermoplastic Polyolefin) roof at $28,854.79.  Trico Roofing also submitted a bid of $32,000.  TPO roofs are a popular choice for flat or low slope roofs and feature a white membrane designed to reflect sunlight and contributes to energy efficiency.  Council also received a bid from Carmi Lumber for materials amounting to $19,638.14; it’s for a pitched metal roof that city workers would be in charge of installing.  Not included in the quote is the cost of renting a crane necessary to set trusses.

Additionally Friday morning, council tabled it’s only other agenda item which reads as “Approval to purchase property located at 200 Kerney Street for future sewer construction/maintenance matters and improvements”.  The matter is said to have to be tabled after the city received a call from city attorney Greg Stewart Thursday.  Mayor Bill Stendeback says…

We received a phone call from the city attorney yesterday; he had gotten a call from the insurance company and we’re going to have to talk about this Tuesday night in executive session.

Motion was made to table and the special meeting adjourned at 8:06am.
