NCOE School Board Meeting Highlights

The NCOE Board of Education held their monthly meeting March 20th in the Superintendent’s office. The minutes and the bills for the month were approved as presented.

Personnel issues highlighted the agenda for the meeting. The resignations of Jimmy Foster, NCO Principal; Charles Simpson, high school math teacher; and Andy Sutter, junior high computers applications teacher, for the 2019-2020 school year were accepted. The Board accepted the retirement letter from Tawny Henson, FACS teacher. She is retiring at the end of May.

The Collective Bargaining Agreement for 2019-2020 was accepted and signed as presented during the meeting. Members from the teachers union were present and thanked the Board for their willingness to work with the union in the contract negotiation and express their gratitude. Members present from the union included: Tiffany Reavis, Afton Poole, Trent Mason, and Chris Lucas. The Board agreed to a one year contract with the union.

The Board voted to re-employ all certified staff and non-certified staff for the 2019-2020 school year. Mrs. Carla Carter, Booth Principal and Mr. Todd Haley, High School Principal, were renewed for next year. Mr. Matt Vollman was renewed with a 3 year contract as Superintendent.

The mowing bid was awarded to Andy’s Mowing Service for both the low bid for both the NCOE high school and NCO grade school.

The senior class trip agenda and sponsors were approved for the upcoming visit to Washington DC and Hershey Park. The senior trip is scheduled for the week of May 7, 2019.

The Board passed the resolution and the purchase agreement to purchase 5 new gasoline buses and the resolution and purchase agreement with Banterra Bank was finalized.

The 2019-2020 membership with IHSA was renewed.

Superintendent Vollman gave a facility update report on summer maintenance projects. The high school will be getting an electrical upgrade. The parking lot at NCO grade school will be evaluated to improve traffic flow. The new scoreboard will be installed at the high school. The bathrooms at Booth will be updated as well as sinks and faucets at the NCO grade school.

Mr. Vollman also wanted to thank the city for their purchase of the highway signs coming into town for the schools State trophy accomplishments in athletics for the year.
