NCOE July School Board Recap

The NCOE Board of Education held their monthly meeting Thursday, July 11th at 6:00 p.m. in the Superintendent’s office. The minutes and the bills for the month were approved as presented.

The Board approved the 2019-2020 school calendar. Students first day of attendance is August 14th.

The annual cafeteria report was reviewed. It was noted that several more meals were served during the 2018-2019 school year and food costs were up for the year.

Fees were set for the 2019-2020 school year. The lunch prices will be $2.65 at the elementary schools and $2.65 at the high school. Breakfast will remain $1.00 and adult lunch prices $3.00. The book rental fee will remain at $40 for elementary and $50 for high school. The admission rates for athletic events are as follows: Jr. High Students and Senior Citizens $1.50; Jr. High Adult $2.00; H.S. Students and Senior Citizens $2.50; and H.S. Adult $3.00.

The Board met in executive session at 6:39 pm to discuss personnel and returned to open session at 7:06 pm.

Heath Rush was appointed as school board member to fill the vacancy left by Scott Riggs.

The Board employed Teresa Scroggins as Jr. High Special Education Teacher. Brad Wehlermann was hired for High School Principal. Also hired was Danielle Healy, NCO P.E. teacher, and Stephen Humphrey, High School Baseball Coach.

Summer maintenance is on track. Teachers have started returning to classrooms to prepare for the students return. The high school electrical upgrade is progressing as planned. The Pre-k is receiving new hvac systems. The NCO parking lot is scheduled to be resealed and striped.

In other business the Board:

– First reading of updated board policies.

– Renewal of the school treasurer bond.

– Approval of the grade school student handbooks.

– Accept the resignation of Megan Appel, NCO Aide.
