McLeansboro Man Facing Charges Following Alleged Copper Wire Theft

A McLeansboro man is behind bars in White County Jail after Carmi Police say they caught him stealing copper wire.  It was just after 6am Tuesday when police were made aware of a suspicious individual near the intersection of Staley and Hay.  Officers took 63-year-old Gerald Ford into custody after they say he ran from them when located stealing the copper belonging to Brent Edwards of rural Carmi.  Ford is facing charges of Theft over $500 and Resisting a Peace Officer/Obstructing Justice.  Ford remains behind bars while awaiting a hearing before a judge in White County court.

Ford spent years behind bars back in the early 2000’s after being found guilty on 3 counts of Burglary here in White County.  Ford was also arrested earlier in April and in a separate case is facing charges of Possession of Meth, Unlawful Possession of Cannabis by a Driver, and Theft.  That was on April 10th.
