MCLEANSBORO CITY COUNCIL
Concerning the water tower project, documents have been submitted to the EPA, then to the Department of Rural Development to review. They also submitted an application to the EPA for running lights for the tank. The water tower will take about nine or ten months to construct. They are lining up financing and they may be able to advertise for bids by May.
The council approved the purchase of the Millenbine property on Henry Street for $1,675 for demolition as well as the purchase of three properties from the County Tax Sale later this year.
The zoning board of appeals approved a Zoning Use Permit for Jerrod McGill for mobile home repairs pending an inspection by the Police Chief.
Approved was the TIF reimbursement request by Bill Wuebbel’s Repair and Sales for a property located at 505 West Market Street for $137.74.
They tabled the TIF reimbursement request by Don and Ann Burke for a property at 405 West St. Charles Street in the amount of $3,802.10 until a discussion on the matter with the Supervisor of Assessments.
Approved was a TIF application for Jerrod and Lois Vaupel of Vaupel Home Furnishings at 105 East Main Street.
The renewal of the intergovernmental agreement with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department for general dispatch was tabled for further discussions.
It was decided to proceed with the lease of an auger truck for the electric department and construction of a bay to hold it.
And the council approved a resolution to write off bad debt from outstanding utility bills.
The Down Hill Derby will be held on May 11th with a rain date of May 18th, and the Fall Festival Weekend will begin on September 7th with the entertainment now being lined up.
Ten Mile Baptist Church will have about 30 students with adult supervision doing clean-up in town on May 28th and 29th. At the request of youth pastor Daniel Bradley, the council will come up with places for the work to be done.
Suzanne Mills and some members of the Southern Illinois Girl Scouts presented Mayor Dick Dietz with a proclamation declaring March 10th to the 15th National Girl Scout Week. Deitz read the proclamation aloud and signed it.
Recipients of Merit from the National Child Safety Council were recognized.
The assembly of the Izaak Walton Cabin will take place as soon as the weather breaks.
The public was reminded that there will be a town hall meeting on April 1st at 6 PM at the Hamilton County High School to discuss firearm legislation, the Governor’s proposed tax increase and overall budget as well as economic development. It’s free and open to the public.
