WROY/WRUL Local Sports Recap
The Carmi-White County Boys Basketball team picked up two wins over the weekend, and they did it in historic fashion.
On Friday, the Bulldogs defeated Hamilton County, 53-49. Gavin Holloman led Carmi in scoring with 18 points. In doing so, Holloman became the 31st member of the CWCHS 1,000 point club.
On Saturday, the Bulldogs defeated Wayne City, 71-55. In the win, Mitchel Edwards re-broke his own CWCHS record for the most points scored in a single game with a 55-point performance. Edwards also became the only Bulldog to ever score 40 points in a game three times.
The Bulldogs improve their record to 13-13 on the year and 5-4 in the Black Diamond Conference, as they have now won 4 games in a row and 6 of their last 7.
The Bulldogs will play their final two games of the regular season this week, hosting Lawrenceville on Tuesday and Fairfield on Friday weather permitting.
*UPDATE* Tuesday’s game vs Lawrenceville has been canceled.
The IHSA released the Boys Basketball postseason brackets back on Friday, and the Bulldogs will take part in the Hamilton County Regional. Carmi will host a play-in game against West Frankfort at McDougal-Evers Gymnasium on Monday, February 24th. If the Bulldogs win that game, they will face Benton in the Regional Semifinals at Hamilton County.
The Carmi-White County Girls Basketball team will begin play in the Hamilton County Regional tonight as they will face Hamilton County, who defeated Flora in their play-in game on Saturday. Tonight’s game was originally scheduled to be played tomorrow, but the game was moved to tonight with the winter weather forecasted for tomorrow. The Lady Bulldogs have defeated Hamilton County in 2 of their 3 matchups this season, but the Lady Foxes have won 10 of their last 11 games, including an overtime win against the Lady Bulldogs two weeks ago.
Fans will be able to watch and listen to tonight’s game on 97.3 FM WRUL and the WRUL Sports YouTube Channel. If the Lady Bulldogs win tonight, they will face either Fairfield or Mt. Carmel in the Regional Championship game on Thursday.
