Grayville has a new lift station pump on it’s way and a new utility employee. Additionally, the city chose from options for electric supply Monday night and decided on purchasing trashcans for placement along North Street as soon as sidewalks are finished there.
In the opening portion of the meeting, commissioners agreed to purchase an emergency pump for the lift station located behind the high school. It will come at a cost of $6,980.34. Leaders also heard a utility report from Scott Irvine and an engineering report from Rex Gower before executive session.
After 11 minutes behind closed doors, top brass emerged from executive session and announced the hiring of Jeremy Miller for the utility department.
Grayville board members then heard from Rob Wielt with Affordable Gas & Electric (AGE), the community’s electric broker for the past dozen years. The company works with more than 100 municipalities between Illinois and Ohio to build a de facto buying group so those communities can improve their purchasing power. Rates are going up, but not drastically. Wielt recommended Grayville swap from current supplier Constellation beginning in July and going with Homefield Energy. The current rate for commercial use based on an estimated use of 600,000 kilowatts per year is at 7.288 cents per kilowatt hour. The new lowest offered rate from Homefield will be 8.397 cents per kWh. When it comes to powering the city’s streetlights, Wielt recommended staying with Constellation where the rate is going up about a tenth of a penny from 6.305 cents to about 6.405 cents.
Grayville Council adjourned at 7:53pm and will next meet on July 14th at 7pm.
