A Thompsonville man has been arrested and charged with three counts of Official Misconduct, two counts of Custodial Sexual Misconduct, those are Class X felonies and two counts of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault. The allegations were made against 58 year old Chet Shaffer who was a Franklin County Sheriff’s Office jail employee. On Friday, August 15th, the sheriff’s office received troubling information and say they immediately placed Shaffer on administrative leave. Due to potential conflict, the Illinois State Police were brought in to investigate. No other details on what allegedly happened were released. Shaffer was reportedly able to post the 10% of his $100,000 bond and is free at the moment. Illinois State Police Zone 7 continues to investigate. Online court records show Shaffer due in Franklin County court on September 24th for a bond hearing. Court records show Shaffer was also a litigant in a civil case about a year ago. The defendants in that case were Sheriff Don Jones, Lutheran Social Services, and Justin Mullens. Bradley Cornille was the plaintiff in that case which never made it to trial and was remedied out of court.
