At approximately 3:00 p.m. on November 3rd, 2024, the White County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a two vehicle collision on Illinois Route 1 at approximately County Road 1350 North from an automated crash detection from Life360. White County Deputies and Carmi Police Officers arrived on scene. It was determined that there were 5 injured in total. One vehicle was smoking and fire extinguishers were used by officers on scene. White County Ambulance Service, Edwards County Ambulance Service, Carmi Fire Department, and five helicopters from AirEvac Lifeteam were dispatched.
There were two SUV’s involved in the crash, a Gray Ford Escape driven by Chris Lochard of Madison, IN with two other Indiana residents in the vehicle and a Gray Chevy Tahoe with two local residents. The driver of the Tahoe was identified as 46 year old Elizabeth Quillman of Norris City and the passenger is unknown at this time. Upon initial investigation, it was determined that the Ford Escape was traveling southbound on IL Route 1 and struck the Chevy Tahoe that was traveling in the opposite direction. For unknown reasons at this time, the Ford Escape drifted into the northbound lane, striking the Chevy Tahoe head on a few feet off of the roadway.
All five patients were transported by helicopter to regional trauma centers for injuries sustained.
Investigation is ongoing at this time.

December 2, 2024 at 5:39 amDo you know for a FACT that the driver was using their cell phone which was the actual cause of the crash or are you just a**uming? You know what happens when you a**ume don’t you? As a FACT, cell phone use was NOT the cause of the accident. Mind your own business .
