A Crossville man is behind bars after law enforcement say they found him parked in the middle of the roadway on Lagoon Street in Carmi late Friday night. A White County Sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to the area after 11pm when a caller said a white pickup had been sitting in the street for more than half an hour. Officers made contact and identified the driver as 47 year old Jeremy Mercer. A field sobriety test and portable breath were then administered with Mercer subsequently blowing a .169 according to the report. Mercer is facing charges of Driving Under the Influence, DUI with a blood alcohol content over .08, and Illegal Possession of Alcohol.
Investigators are looking for the person who allegedly broke into a pickup parked at the old antique store in Burnt Prairie. White County Sheriff’s officials were contacted by Steven Phelps of Crossville Friday morning. Phelps reported someone broke into a 2010 Dodge Ram 2500 he had parked there. A formal complaint was signed and Illinois State Crime Scene personnel were called into to process the scene. Swabs of potential touch DNA were collected and the investigation is ongoing. Phelps signed a formal complaint with initial charges including Burglary, Theft Under $500, and Criminal Damage to Property.
