Crossville officials welcomed new leadership Wednesday evening. Among those elected and sworn in were Village President Rick Kuykendall and Trustee Miranda Kuykendall. Trustees who were re-elected also took the oath including Nancy Osborne and Cherie Westfall. The village president then made appointments from returning Village Clerk Selena Harrell to naming Cheyenne Long as Village Treasurer and Village Clerk Pro Tem. Additionally, Kuykendall affirmed Lance Clevenger and Moses Scott as Fire Chief and Assistant Chief respectively and chose Wes Trout to serve as Mayor Pro Tem.
The village also heard presentations from Wabash Area Development Incorporated and the Greater Wabash Regional Planning Commission during the hour long gathering. Amy Seidel spoke about an opportunity for Crossville to bring on summer help in the form of two individuals. WADI’s WIOA program (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act) would handle much of the heavy lifting including the expense of bringing on an employee for up to 6 months and is primed for those age 16 – 24. Village trustees agreed with Rick Kuykendall it was worth further exploration. Taegan Garner, a Community Development Coordinator with the Regional Planning Commission gave a brief update on a Delta Regional Authority/Community Development Assistance Program grant opportunity that could help the village make waterline replacements. Currently, the village is outfitted with 2-inch cast iron pipes and the up to $500,000 grant would allow Crossville water customers an upgrade to 4- or 6-inch mains.
Also Wednesday night, Kuykendall created a Park Committee tapping Osborne to head it up with assistance from trustees Westfall and Miranda Kuykendall. The village also tackled mosquito spray, an item tabled during the March 26th meeting. At the time, then Village President Henry Feldmann balked at the supplier saying the price had increased by 25%.

Wednesday night, trustees had to move forward and agreed to purchase 10 gallons at a cost of $4,408.16.
Lastly of note, the village discussed building and special use permits with Kuykendall saying there may be some additional hoops to jump through.
We’ve had a couple requests for building permits and just to let everybody know what’s going on, there’s been some things going on about things happening in areas that affect FEMA. So we’ve got to research that out before issuing permits. We have to make sure that it fits the guidelines on what FEMA mandates to us for building in the floodplain.
Crossville officer Mark Wheeler also reported he handled about 13 calls since the last meeting as well as conducted 14 traffic stops and made one arrest.
Crossville leaders are next due to meet on June 10th at 6:30pm.
