Carmi teen, passenger injured in railroad crossing accident Saturday night

A Carmi teen is in stable condition at an Evansville hospital after an accident involving a train that occurred Saturday night in rural White County.

17 year old Logan Pugsley was attempting to cross the intersection on County Road 900E at 11:45pm when she was struck in the driver’s side by a train operated by Evansville Western Railway.   The conductor told investigators that he braked the train and attempted to stop, but was unable to avoid the collision.

Pugsley was extracted from the vehicle by members of the White County Ambulance service and was air lifted to Evansville.  A passenger in the vehicle, 20 year old Jacob Walters, received minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to a hospital.

An investigation into the collision is being conducted by the White County Sheriff’s Office and the railroad.

A Springerton woman was seriously injured during an argument between two brothers where one of them pulled a knife.

Cynthia Pierce was transported to an area hospital by ambulance with a cut on her arm after Glenn Pierce and Dustin Pierce got into a fight around 6:30pm Friday night.  Glenn Pierce told White County Sheriff’s deputies that he pulled a knife to defend himself, but did not know how Cynthia was injured.  Neither Glenn or Dustin wanted to sign a complaint, but information has been forwarded to White County States Attorney Denton Aud and future charges may be possible.

On Saturday, Frank Elliott Jr. reported to the White County Sheriff’s Department that someone had broken into his father’s home and taken a jar of change.  Elliot reported that he found a side entrance unlocked when he came to check on the house and the thieves had ransacked the inside.  Deputies found that entrance had most likely been made through a window.
