Carmi Man Cited For Suspended Registration

On Friday February 10th at around 6 p.m. Deputy Matt Wicker observed a vehicle run a red light at Main and Oak. Wicker ran the registration through dispatch and was advised that the registration was suspended through the State of Illinois. An officer with the Carmi PD arrived to assist with the traffic stop. Wicker made contact with the driver, 20 year old Skylar Gehrig of Cedar Street and asked for his license and proof of insurance. Gehrig handed the officer his license but couldn’t provide proof of insurance. When the officer asked Gehrig why he didn’t stop at the red light he said he didn’t think he had to since he was turning right. The officer told him it is required. The officer then explained that due to his registration being expired, the vehicle would have to be towed. Gehrig was cited for Operation of an Uninsured Motor Vehicle, Disobeying Traffic Control Device, and Operation of a Vehicle when Registration Suspended.  Following a completed inventory of the vehicle, it was towed from the scene by Don’s Bumper to Bumper in Carmi.
