Carmi Council Meets Tuesday
It what was supposed to be a light agenda for the Carmi City Council Tuesday night, appears to actually be a full evening of business.
Carmi Mayor Jeff Pollard had asked council at the last meeting in March if they wanted to move the first April meeting due to that day being the Consolidated Election Day. It was indicated there would be efforts to keep the meeting light as not to interfere with the elections. However, while many of the items can be covered fairly quickly, at least one or two items will likely take some time to cover.
David Coston, the city’s electrical engineer and consultant will be back in front of council continuing his discussion on what to do about Generator 11 at the power plant. That took over 30 minutes of discussion at the last council meeting. Coston will also discuss the possible purchase of a breaker for the Bradshaw substation.
Carmi Chief of Police Jason Carter has several items to present to the council. He will request the council’s approval to move forward with the purchase and training of a new K-9 for the police department.
The Chief will also ask for approval to transfer ownership, responsibility and expense of Police K-9 Orest to Sgt. Dustin Buttry at the retirement of K-9 Orest.
Carter ask council to approve the appointment of Brent Hammell to the Board of Fire and Police Commission, to fill the remainder of Braden Willis’ term. The rest of the term runs from April 2 of this year through December 31.
Council will also be asked to renew the employee’s safety incentive program for the next year.
Mowing and maintenance bids will be awarded at Tuesday’s meeting as well.
Other matters, include committee reports and Mayor Pollard’s report.
The meeting will begin at 5:30 and is open to the public.
