Carmi City Council Holds Teleconference Meeting Due to Weather Tuesday Night

Carmi City Council was forced back to the telephones Tuesday night, this time not due to CoViD-19 but rather the weather and road conditions.  The 5:30pm meeting lasted just about 15 minutes.  In it, leaders approved spending $24,020 to replace a garage door at the Carmi Airport.  Parachutes over Carmi used to rent that space.  Mayor Pollard says

Chris Pollard’s Carmi Fitness located at 318 North First Street was awarded a Façade Improvement Grant in the amount of $5,000.  He plans to make upgrades to the outside and roof along with doors and windows.

The council agreed to a $40,000 pay request for grant administration by the Greater Wabash Regional Planning Commission.  That work was tied into the Industrial Drive project.  On that same front, the council also approved paying Brown and Roberts Engineering $11,256.38 for their role in the job.

Finally, council passed a resolution allowing the use of more than $46,000 in Motor Fuel Tax funds for the city’s portion of an upcoming repaving of Main Street through Carmi.  Mayor Pollard has the details.

The mayor also says in the coming weeks, he’ll be asking council to pass a resolution for Rebuild Illinois.  The money received from the state in the amount of $340,000 have to be used for infrastructure and roads.  Pollard says if they don’t use it all, they have to give it back and he intends to use every bit of it if possible.

City Animal Control Officer Linda Aud has a new ride.  When asked, the mayor explained that he ran across the new van at Rice Motors, said it fit her needs perfectly and cost around $19,000.  The Jeep Aud was driving is hers and the city was responsible for paying for upkeep and maintenance.  The new van will be used as a city vehicle specifically.

Leaders all thanked the city employees for their efforts in making roadways as passable as possible.  The meeting adjourned just after 5:45pm.
