Carmi White County School Board
The board members decided to invite Paul Lunsford of Lunsford Architects and Tom Crabtree, a director with Stifel, Nicholas and Company, who have been discussing plans to either renovate or replace the three elementary school buildings, to the April 15th school board meeting to discuss the situation further. They said the still have a lot of questions to ask.them.
The board accepted the bid from White County Ford Chrysler for two 2019 Ford Transit Multi-Passenger Vans at a price of $40,000 each, plus applicable license and title fees.
There will be a special board meeting held on Monday April 29th at 7 PM to review election results, seat new members, elect officers, establish a regular meeting date and place and adopt the policies of the previous board.
Revenue for the month of February was $889,149, which included $65,960 from the one percent sales tax.
In the superintendent’s report, Brad Lee said the federally required state test for Grades 3 through 8 are changing from the PARCC to the Illinois Assessment of Readiness. The test will be administered from April 5th to the 26th. Most grade levels will begin testing on April 8th.
The federally required state online science exam, called the Illinois Science Assessment, are now taking place through March 22nd for students grades five through eighth and high school biology.
It’s also the third year for high school juniors to take the College Board’s SAT exam. It’s offered free of charge on April 6th.
Students and staff will be on spring break March 25th to the 29th.
This year’s high school prom will be held at New Harmony, Indiana on Saturday April 13th at 7 PM.
Lee also congratulated the high school fine arts department on their performance of the musical “Grease”, as well as the archery team completing regional and staff competitions, and the 12 high school students that competed in the Academic Challenge Sectionals at SIU.
In other business, the board approved renewing membership in the IHSA; approved seven board policies to be preliminarily adopted as amended with final action set at next month’s board meeting and seven other board policies with no changes; accepted the retirements of Konnie Harrington and Robin Huggins, both effective at the end of the 2022-23 school year; accepted the resignations of Ashley French as a Noon Supervisor at Lincoln School effective March 12th and Blair Whetstone as a Special Education
