A Carmi man has died following a three car accident Tuesday evening according to Illinois State Police.
According to the preliminary crash report, a pickup was attempting to turn left on to County Road 900 from Illinois Route 14 at 5:10 pm, when it was struck from behind by a Jeep Cherokee driven by 20 year old Paitton Powell. Powell said she looked away from the road momentarily. The collision forced the truck into the path of a car driven by a 60 year old Carmi man , who later died of his injuries at Hamilton Memorial Hospital.
Powell was transported to Hamilton Memorial Hospital and treated for minor injuries. The driver of the pickup truck and his passenger were transported by White County Ambulance personnel to landing zones and subsequently life flighted to Deaconess Hospital. The 60 year old driver of the car involved in the secondary collision was transported to Hamilton Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Carmi Police, White County Sheriff’s deputies, the White County Ambulance service, and Harre Ambulance Service at the scene. Powell was cited for following too closely. The name of the victim has not been released.
