A Carmi woman will spend the next 6 months in jail after failing a drug test last week. 62-year-old Karen Osborne was originally arrested back in February of 2020 on charges of Possession of Meth. Her plea deal at the time resulted in dismissal of lesser charges in exchange for a guilty plea on the Meth charge. She was subsequently given a 6 month stayed jail sentence along with probation, fined, sentenced to community service, and ordered into drug treatment. White County Sheriff’s personnel were called to the probation office January 29th just after 4pm after dispatch advised Osborne had failed a drug test violating probation. Online court records indicate she was given the original 6 month jail sentence the next day.
Sheriff’s Deputies pulled over Storm Michael Banks in the early morning hours of January 30th. According to the report, it was about 1:40am when a deputy pulled Banks over on Illinois 1 near County Road 1800 East after seeing it cross the center line multiple times. Banks then allegedly told the law enforcement officer that the vehicle had just been purchased and wasn’t his. Additionally, when asked to produce a license and insurance information, Banks told the officer he hadn’t been able to get it yet. When checking in with Posey County dispatch, the officer says they checked the registration and advised the plate was clear, but expired and belonged on a green Saturn, not the vehicle it was on. The officer completed a total of 3 citations: Unlawful Display on a Vehicle, No Valid Registration, and Operation of an Uninsured Motor Vehicle.
Later Thursday, Sheriff’s Office personnel were back at the probation office, this time for 29-year-old Jordyn Puckett for an alleged probation violation. Puckett was originally arrested back in March of 2023 on a handful of charges. Her plea deal included a guilty plea for Possession of Meth in exchange for a dismissal of the remaining charges. She was given a 6 month stayed jail sentence along with probation, fine, sentenced 30 hours of community service, and ordered into drug treatment. For the failure, Puckett was sentenced to 6 months behind bars on Friday with 38 days of time served credit taken into account.
Sunday afternoon, a deputy was notified by Carmi Police that 24-year-old Timothy Martisko of Crossville was walking into Wal-Mart in Carmi knowing that his license had been revoked according to the report. At that point, the deputy found the car and waited for Martisko to come back out to see if he was driving. The report indicates the officer witnessed the subject enter the vehicle and drive it out of the parking lot prompting a stop. On discussion, Martisko allegedly told the officer he knew he was revoked but that he was in process of getting it fixed. Law enforcement subsequently booked Martisko, gave him a citation for the offense, provided a Notice to Appear for March 11th at 9am in White County Court.
