Two short programs highlight Thursday’s Rotary meeting

The Carmi Rotary club had two short programs on Thursday, as the scheduled speaker was unable to attend the day’s meeting.

Pastor Randy Douglass of the First United Methodist Church spoke briefly to the club about a series of movies called, “The Jesus Project.” Pastor Douglass explained that this project started around 20 years ago, and they have now produced many, many movies. The first one, “The Life of Jesus” is in his opinion, the best of all of the Jesus themed movies. He stated that many times Jesus is portrayed as serious and quiet, but in this movie, he is shown as a happy, laughing person.

The two other movies in the series are “The Life of Jesus for Children” and “Magdalina”. Pastor Douglass also recommended both of those titles.

Anyone can go to the app store and download the movies for free. Simply search for “The Jesus Film Project” and download your copy.

The day’s second impromptu speaker as another Randy; Randy Adams. He spoke briefly to the group about a very exciting event planned for Carmi on September 29th. He stated that everything is still in the very early planning stages, and told the club a few of the ideas. At this time though, everyone should just save the date. There will be much more information to follow over the next few months.

In club business, Randy Douglass won the day’s 50/50 drawing, and once again, the winning ball was chosen and the Pastor won the huge pot of four dollars!

Dale Peters was named the day’s phantom.

The members also briefly discussed the upcoming fish fry, which will be held on Friday, May 18th at the American Legion in Carmi. Tickets are only ten dollars per person, and come with catfish, sides, dessert, and a drink. Tickets can be purchased from any Carmi Rotarian or at the door the night of the event. Doors will open at 5:00pm and the night will wrap up at 7:00pm.

The Carmi Rotary club meets every Thursday at noon at the First United Methodist Church on Main Street in Carmi. Anyone wishing to learn more about this civic organization is welcome to attend a meeting or speak with any Carmi Rotarian.
