SIC Foundation Helps Increase Funding for Scholarship

Yearly, more than 70 percent of Southeastern Illinois College students receive some form of financial aid and scholarships and approximately $4 million is awarded.

With students feeling the crunch now more than ever with the rising cost of university tuition and fees, the SIC Foundation has come together with Southeastern to increase funding to the High Achiever scholarship and help ease the financial burden students face to receive higher education.

“The High Achiever is an award that is meant to reward the top academic performer at each of our in-district high schools,” said Chad Flannery, dean of student services and enrollment.  “We want to give these students a competitive education without the fear of debt.”

Before, the High Achiever scholarship was valued at $3,100 per year, divided equally between fall and spring semester. Beginning with new recipients in the fall semester of 2016, the scholarship will be increased to $3,600 per year, equaling $1,800 per semester. These funds are to be used for tuition and fees.

One High Achiever scholarship is awarded to each high school in Southeastern’s district. This scholarship requires a 3.0 grade point average or higher and is awarded by the high school guidance counselor. All scholarship recipients must be continuously enrolled at SIC and complete a minimum of 12 semester hours and maintain excellent academic standing. The students also get to participate in a service learning opportunity where they will work to help others achieve their educational dreams.

The application deadline for scholarships is Feb. 29.  All scholarship forms – including both printable and online applications – are available on the SIC website at www.sic.edu/scholarships.  For additional information, contact the Financial Aid office at 618-252-5400 ext. 4110 or[email protected].
