It was a relatively quick meeting with only one item on the agenda for the Carmi Township.
Supervisor Pam Deig discussed the general and emergency assistance for January. The total amount disbursed was $3,643, which included 19 sign-ins, all from Carmi, that ranged from electricity, shelter, and gas.
The treasurer’s report revealed a substantial income of $55,275.59, with $40,000 of that amount attributed to the motor fuel tax. Highway Commissioner Chris McEwing explained that this income will be utilized effectively.
“I’m just going to put it on the road, so we’ll have 12 and a half miles to oil and chip this year. That’s 1,450 tons of rock. I didn’t get a chance because I missed last week to thank the guys for help on the snow removal. Actually, we had a guy call in for two days, so it was just me and Steve, and he did great, you know, we only got hung up once.”
Responding to OSHA’s request, the Carmi Township board members swiftly approved the adoption of a Hazard Communication Program. This proactive step not only met their OSHA requirements but also set the stage for future initiatives.
Surprisingly, the board members went into executive session to conclude the night, with Attorney Greg Stewart stating that no action would be taken afterward.
The next Carmi Township board meeting will be March 11th at 6 PM.
