The Carmi-White County School Board met Monday night with the FY 26 budget as the main item on the agenda. Scott Mareing was there and has this report…
Before the regular board meeting at 6, there was a special board meeting held at 5:45 PM for a hearing on the budget. Superintendent Jerrod Newell ran down the numbers, noting that total receipts for all funds are projected as $22,141,174 with expenditures of $21,904,089. The budget is projected to complete the year at $26,613,977 for all fund accounts. There were no questions, so the hearing was adjourned at 5:54 PM.
The board then immediately went into regular session.
The Consent Agenda was approved, which included adoption of a resolution listing the district’s current serious safety transportation hazard approvals, the approval of the district’s FY 25 Administrator and Teacher Salary and Benefits Report, and the acceptance of $2,690 in donations to Brownsville School.
In the Superintendent’s Report, Jerrod Newell said the district’s sixth-day enrollment for the 2025-2026 school year was 1,230, which is down from last year’s fall count of 1,282.
The board then adopted the Fiscal Year 2026 budget for Carmi-White County CUSD #5 as presented.
In new business, the board reviewed and re-evaluated a Board Policy for the Prevention of and Response to Bullying, Intimidation, and Harassment. It was approved with no changes needing to be made.
They went into Closed Session at 6:01 PM to discuss Personnel and a Review of Closed Session Minutes.
During Closed Session, the board approved the resignation of Brandi Emmerson, an Individual Aide at Brownsville Attendance Center. Three employments were also approved, pending background screenings. Madison Niehaus as a Morning Supervisor at LAC, Greg O’Neal as a 6th-grade girls’ basketball coach, and Darrell Conover as an 8th-grade girls’ basketball coach.
