Former Chairwoman Cassie Pigg stepped down from the White County Board in June, promising to continue representing her district until the board appoints a replacement. At the October monthly meeting, the board selected Matthew Wicker, a Republican, to fill the vacant seat representing District 4.
With Chairwoman Amanda Cannon absent, David South took the lead. South moved through the White County Board agenda and approved a $250 donation in honor of Mike Knight for his service to the County; the board gave it to the Michael Knight Memorial Foundation.
Bellwether Representative Justin Harmon discussed the next item: the board needed to approve displaying the Fiscal Year 2027 budget. Harmon explained that the board made a few changes to the liability insurance levy that day. Other than that, the board approved displaying the budget; the public can find it on the White County website or at the County Clerk’s office.
Up next, Brent from Snedecker Risk Management attended to review the upcoming renewal. The renewal increased to 9.8% this year, with free appraisals offered. He added that the company also provides free ICRMT training opportunities and a 50/50 safety matching grant. The board accepted the renewal with Snedecker Risk Management.
Other approvals included the consent agenda, Jury List Resolution, and the Juror Compensation Resolution.
In county officer reports, Treasurer Mike Baxley stated that taxes were still being collected. After expenses of $ 640,540.97, the month’s ending balance totaled $2,884,334.44 in the general fund.
Ambulance Director Adam Allen thanked the White County 4-H for their fundraiser donation, which helped raise over $500 for the ambulance service.
