Sheriff’s Department investigates thefts, arson cases over weekend

Just after noon on Friday, Jennifer Wyant of Grayville reported to the White County Sheriff’s Department that sometime between July 1 and August 5th, someone had set fire to a mobile home she owned at the Flota lease on County Road 550 East.  Wyant told deputies that the trailer had been destroyed, with the deck torn off, all windows broken, and the pull hitch bent.

Friday afternoon, deputies took a burglary report from Cory Fukua of Norris City.  Fukua reported several items of jewelry and a safe had been taken from his home earlier in the day.  Deputies gathered evidence at the scene.

Deputies also took a theft report Friday evening from Jenny Ward of Crossville, who reported that overnight on Thursday, someone took a wallet, prescription medication, and a cell phone from her apartment while she slept.

Saturday morning, the Sheriff’s Department received a report that the toll booth at the closed New Harmony Bridge had been burned.  Deputies found significant damage to the booth and building next to it was considered a total loss.  The fire is being considered an act of arson.

Saturday afternoon, deputies took a report from 20 year old Keaton Pollard that he had been assaulted by a female juvenile while in a vehicle in Crossville.  Pollard stated that the juvenile attacked him with both her hands and feet.  Several witnesses to the attack were interviewed at the scene, and charges have been filed.
