Pollard Signals Intention to Suspend Campaign for Mayor; Withdraw Objection

With the Electoral Board of Review hearing less than 48 hours away, Mayor Jeff Pollard has announced he’s suspending his campaign for the office.  In addition, he says he’s requested the Electoral Board withdraw his objection to Bill Stendeback’s candidacy in spite of his and others questions about the challenger’s residency.  Pollard thanked his loyal supporters and says he plans to continue as Mayor until the end of his term, but says “instead of dividing the community, it is time to step aside allowing change for the future.”

Carmi, Illinois

Today I am suspending my campaign for Mayor of Carmi.

I have been blessed with many supporters and many victories that we have shared as residents of Carmi over the past several years.

As I am suspending my campaign, I have also requested the Electoral Board withdraw my objection to Mr. Stendeback’s candidacy, to leave a candidate for Mayor on the ballot, notwithstanding the concerns of many about Mr. Stendeback’s residency. I think instead of dividing the community, it is time to step aside allowing change for the future.

I will continue as Mayor of Carmi until the end of my term. I cannot thank my loyal supporters of Carmi enough for your continuing support, loyalty, and faith to better the future of our community.

This is a critical time for Carmi residences to come together and look towards the future of our city.

I thank the people of Carmi.

Jeff Pollard

Mayor of Carmi
