Pair of Auto Accidents Monday in Carmi

A Grayville woman got more than she bargained for while thumping melons in Carmi yesterday.  Mary Bell reports to Carmi Police she had gotten out of her Dodge Caravan at John Brown’s melon stand in East Carmi just before 2:30pm when for unknown reasons, her van rolled into a wooden pole.  No one was injured, the report indicates more than $1,500 worth of damage was caused to the vehicle however.

A cellphone was blamed for an auto accident Monday morning in front of the library in Carmi.  Craig Tupper of Grayville told Carmi PD he was eastbound on Main Street and when he looked down at his phone, struck the rear end of a Toyota driven by Kandace Jordan of Carmi.  Upon arrival of police, it was learned Tupper was wanted on a warrant.  Tupper was arrested, processed and bonded out to $200 cash.
