A Carmi man is behind bars following an early morning arrest Sunday. It was just before 2am when Carmi Police say they arrested 41-year-old David Newman of Sixth Street. The report indicates Newman was taken into custody and is facing charges of Aggravated Battery to a Police Officer after striking a law enforcement officer. The arrest happened near the intersection of 5th and Sycamore. Newman remains behind bars until he can be seen by a judge.
